Summer fair

We’ve been to a summer fair today, the first of the season and it was lovely. Tombolas, bouncy castles, cake and tea stall, second-hand book stalls, a football goal-scoring net game, plant stall, beer tent, slides and train sets for the kids to play with, various community awareness raising stalls and more.

They do a good summer fair do the English. It’s one of the things I like most about living here. A summer fair, at least the ones I’ve been to, isn’t big or garish in any way. They have a feeling of community, simple pleasures and just good, clean family fun.

The kids loved it. I loved it. A. was at work but I bet he’d have loved it too.
